Estate & Trust Income Returns (Form 1041)

Form 1041 income tax returns for estates and trusts, prepared virtually for clients nationwide by an IRS Enrolled Agent, including Schedule K-1s for beneficiaries.

What We Need

What we need to get started

This return reports income earned by an estate or trust. Here is what to gather.

What we need

  • The estate's or trust's EIN
  • A copy of the will or the trust document
  • For an estate: the decedent's name and date of death
  • The executor's or trustee's name and contact information
  • Prior year's Form 1041, if one was filed
  • Each beneficiary's name, SSN, address, and share
  • Amounts and dates of any distributions made to beneficiaries
  • 1099s for interest, dividends, and investment sales, and any K-1s received
  • Rental or business income earned by the estate or trust
  • Fiduciary, attorney, and accounting fees
  • Date-of-death values of assets, for cost basis
  • Estimated tax payments made during the year

Who pays the tax: income kept in the estate or trust is taxed to it; income distributed is generally taxed to the beneficiaries on their K-1s — so the distribution records really matter.

What's included
